Willa and THE STICK

When Cro and I first get home from work, and weather permits, we like to play with the dogs in the yard. It helps us wind down and it makes the ‘girls’ feel more like part of the Pack after being shut out in the yard all day. Today was a breezy day in Atlanta, and there were several decent sized branches on our ‘lawn’ (you’ll see in the pics why I put lawn in parenthesis *ick*) Willa loves to play stick ~ these branches were too tempting of a prize for a pup with a wicked Napoleon complex to pass up. The very first ’stick’ she comes across is about 8 feet in length and 2.5 - 3″ in diameter at it’s widest point. Teehee ~ that silly dog grabs the stick and tries to take off…running into the fence, a tree, my leg, another dog…nothing stopped her. When Cro tried to take the stick from her she clung to it for dear life ~ allowing herself to be picked up by the stick clamped between her tenacious jaws.

The pictures behind the cut were taken with my cellphone…rather poor quality =/

Willa & THE STICK
Willa rips across the yard with an 8′ fallen branch.
15lb dog VS 8′ stick
Willa make a valiant effort at dragging her ’stick’ (an 8′ branch) out of the reach of Winnie (our younger Mastiff).
3rd Attempt Playing keep-away
3rd Attempt
After her efforts were foiled by ‘Cro, Willa decides to take a different tact ~ she removes several of the smaller branches from her ’stick’ before continuing on…
Playing keep-away
Just outside of the pic Winnie is waiting in the wings, ready to pounce and take Willa’s precious ’stick’
'Cro tries to show who's boss
‘Cro tries to show who’s boss
…apparently a losing battle as Willa ultimately wound up trotting off with the prize ’stick’
Surprise attack The battle begins...
Surprise attack
Just before wresting the stick from Cro’s hands Willa makes her sneak attack and nips the side of his hand…
The battle begins…
Winnie finally catches up with Willa (no mean feat ~ one of Winnie’s strides are equal to a good trot for Willa).
And the winner is declared...
And the winner is declared…
Seconds after this shot Willa trotted off with her prize branch as Winnie was distracted by a much small stick…

We’ve contracted Scott’s Lawn Care to convert our weed and dirt patches to a decent lawn ~ treatments begin shortly *fingers crossed*
