Live+Press…limping along

I’ve been toying around with the files for SoMuchGeek.com’s Live+Press plugin for the better part of today. I have edited several files (sadly, I honestly can not recall what I’ve changed), browsed through the database structure to find WP2.0 specific tables since the called for ‘user_levels’ is no longer available (this, after repeated attempts to figure out how to add roles/capabilities to this plugin) and went through quite a bit of ‘trial and error’ updating. I don’t want to step on any toes by playing around with another’s code, but I miss the functionality Live+Press added to my blog and the plugin’s author hasn’t been active for quite some time. My sad attempt at proffering a bribe for a fix went unanswered ;-p

Most of my cross-posted WordPress entries had LJ-specific tags, which were no longer be visible in the body of the post once Live+Press was disabled. Earlier today I came across an exceedingly simple fix for that particular issue and the LJ user tags were once again visible. I eliminated the problem with Live+Press breaking the ‘write entry’ page. The LJ interface is now visible, and my LiveJournal info (Pics, communities, etc) now load. I haven’t been able to get an entry to synch with LJ just yet, but I’m still trying…

*fingers crossed*

[edit] Holy freaking cow!! It worked *grins* ~ though I am sure my sloppy ‘fixes’ did more to break the plugin than actually fix it (I’m not that savvy when it comes to code). I don’t know if the changes I have made will work on another install, an install with multiple users … or even when WordPress 2.0.1 comes out…but for now it works on *my* install of WP 2.0 *sigh of relief*

Any chance of sharing your fixes with us? :-) I just upgraded yesterday and was preparing to say goodbye to the LJ crossposting. Someone created a new plugin, but it has nowhere near the functionality of Live+Press yet.

Hi Brian ~ I listed the changes made to the Live+Press plugin in ::this entry::

Let me know if you have any suggestions or questions ~ the hacked up version is far from perfect.

Sure thing, Brian =) I will have to do a bit of backtracking ~ I should be able to put it something together tomorrow evening or Saturday morning.

In all honesty I tried ‘breaking’ things one by one until I got Live+Press to work (thus the “…limping along”). I’m not sure if the changes made to the code create/increase any sort risk (security or otherwise). So far I haven’t found any *real* issues ~ posting and editing WordPress entries synch with LiveJournal with no problem. However, deleting a post from WordPress will not synch to LJ (but I’m working on it).

Please keep us updated on this. I would love to be able to upgrade, but without Live+Press, it’s just not possible.

Thank you!!!!!
