While browsing around my ‘friends’ list on LiveJournal I came across mention of Vox (yet another 6apart venture). Reading about the service and poking around the site piqued my interest and I set about setting up an account for myself and the hubby. As Vox is still in ‘preview’ state accounts are not readily available at this time. Someone desiring an account would either need a Vox invite from a current user or one has the option to submit their email address to possibly receive an invite at some point in the future (very noncommittal). Lacking any other option, as I don’t know of anyone with Vox invites to spare, I entered the email addy for both myself and the hubby.
A couple of weeks went by before I received an email from Vox.com containing and invite for one account. I set up my account, played around with the features and made a couple of posts (I kinda like the QotD feature =) I have to say it’s a rather nifty service ~ a blending of several other popular blogging/social networking sites. Vox is not as customizable or feature rich as LiveJournal (or, of course, a standalone like this WP install) but it’s a lot more user friendly and it is structurally cleaner than MySpace. Basically a ‘lite’ version of LiveJournal…for ‘dummies’. By ‘dummies’ I don’t mean to imply lack of intelligence, but rather that a Vox user wouldn’t necessarily have to be very code savy in order for the service to work well for them. Kinda like my dear hubby ~ who prefers to have things just ‘work’…and leaves the rest up to me to figure out ;-)
The sad news…as of today the hubby has yet to receive an invite and my account isn’t generating any invites of it’s own (I suppose I have a lower level account that doesn’t have the ability to generate Vox invites?) Of course I’d like to set up his account and get him started soon. If anyone passing through happens to have a spare Vox invite that they wouldn’t mind sending to the hubby ~ his email addy is
