Home Improvements…

The screen porch Cro is building is coming along nicely. I think it will be ready to move the patio furniture in by the end of this weekend. There will still be some interior work left to be done, but until then it will be an flying insect-free haven. I meant to take pics before the work started and keep record of Cro’s work as he progressed but I forgot. I did get a bit of video - but it’s mostly Cro cursing at his hammer (ooch his poor thumb).

For now the lower exterior walls are covered in Hardee Plank - eventually vinyl siding will go up to match the other non-brick surfaces of the house (just not in our budget ATM). I’m stuck with white, since that is the color of the existing siding (I’m not interested in changing it all and the house is going to have to be sold eventually). The inside of the room is going to be all me. The walls will be colored ‘Moorish’ red (deep, warm). The floor is going to be finished in a blackish cement stain. The stain will give the floor the look of stone - kinda like the showroom floor of the company I used to work for in ADAC. I’ve already ordered the natural bamboo shades and jute rug. I’ll have to re-stain the patio set to get it to jive with the room. I plan on using the same color stain (maybe toned down/up) on the window sills…and it’s high time the doors were refinished. Our antique oak cabinet finally comes out of it’s hiding place (it will, in turn, hide our mini-fridge and bar schtuffs). I need to hit the fabric stores for seat covers, etc. - hopefully my old H&C card still carries some clout (designer dicount = vera vera nice).

We’re taking down the crummy white picket fence in front of the house and putting up a shorter fence on either side of the house. Once the fence is up the pond/fountain kit comes out of the attic and gets planted in the ground outside the screen room (♥ the sound of running water - even if it is a teeny little ‘pond’). Then the hickory gets uprooted, as well as several overgrown bushes and a small deck is built to cover the grass on the the side of the house, just outside of the screen room.

I think Cro does know how to make me happy. Or at least get my mind off of things. I needed this project. Our crappy little house needs this project (and a gazillion others).
