…and back again.

WordPressAfter upgrading to Wordpress 2.0 and then returning to 1.5.2 (for sake utilizing of Live+Press) I noticed my site was taking an average of 15 seconds to load on a T1 connection. Not being that savvy I am not sure if downgrading the Wordpress database resulted in longer sql query times…I still don’t know. I do know, however, that once I returned to 2.0 the load time is a more reasonable (but still too long) 5 - 8 seconds.

While not having Live+Press is proving to be a major inconvenience for me, at least I’ve managed to disable the WYSIWYG editor and the Spelling Checker plugin now functions. I did accidentally copy over my hacked version of quicktags, so I’ll need to recreate my changes *fixed*. Seamagic still works with 2.0, but to be honest I rarely use it to update my WordPress install.

For now I’m leaving the hubby’s site, scarecrow.la, with 1.5.2 ~ he is less savvy than I and finds the Live+Press even more vital. As for the other installs of Wordpress ~ it doesn’t seem like they are getting much use. B seems to be keeping up with his blog ~ but he too relies on Live+Press to synch with LiveJournal.

All in all, I still find Wordpress to be incredible software…and I’m extremely appreciative of the amount of time and work the developers put into maintaining and improving WP. Most of all ~ I appreciate the low, low cost to me, the end user…zilch.

[edit 14.1.2006] After a bit of hacking, Live+Press is now working on my WP 2.0 install. Also, it turns out the database issues were the fault of my host. According to the support notices from my host it seems the db had to be moved to a new machine twice in less than a week.

I saw that you posted to test my crossposting plugin. What happened? Did it not work? Let me know, because if there is a problem, I can always try to fix it.

Actually, the plugin worked fabulously! Thanks for taking the time to put it together =) I made a couple of changes to the plugin so I could post to my LiveJournal AND DeadJournal simultaneously. As for the test post ~ once I checked to see if it was successful on all three sites I deleted it.
