After seeing this blurb in my dashboard this afternoon I’ve been curious to see what changes have been made by the WP team. The upgrade from Wordpress 1.5.2 to 2.0 rc3 was quick and relatively painless. Admittedly, the ‘pain’ was self-imposed ~ I don’t know what possessed me to hit ‘delete’ while hovering over wp-cong.php. No major changes were necessary after the upgrade. My theme seems to work as well as it always has in Firefox & IE (the site still looks like ‘par boiled ass’ in IE), in both Windows XP and SUSE Linux 9.3.
The only problems I’ve experienced so far have been minor. Firstly ~ I can not write or edit posts if I have the Live+Press plugin active. Not having this plugin is not much of an inconvenience at the moment ~ between handling the benefits/insurance renewals at work, dealing with our lawyer and the holidays I’ve all but abandoned my journal and scrapbook (I have close to a gig of photos from various events, art shows, concerts, etc. to upload). I would definitley like to see the Live+Press plugin adapted for WP 2 as my LJ has become my primary form of contact with my friends since I’ve become a ’responsible’ HR manager ;-p. So far the list of working and non-working plugins, seems to be in favor of WP 2.0 RC3.
The second problem I came across more than likely is due to my host, Dreamhost, rather than the upgrade. My site is loading excrutiatingly slow this evening ~ despite a highspeed connection and two good machines. However, my Joomla install on mausolea.com, also hosted by Dreamhost, isn’t running quite as slow as my WP install…then again the pages on creepigurl.com are a bit heavy.
As for the upgrade as a whole ~ so far it has been a welcome change. Particularly, the collapsing menus in the post screen which are very convenient and lend the page a more ‘clean’ feel. The WYSIWYG editor is definitely a plus, though I have to admit at one time I found them annoying (especially the editor on LJ). The theme manager now has screenshots ~ useful if you have multiple themes stored. These, and several other new features, are much appreciated ~ I’ve grown accustomed to them while playing around with the Joomla install.

[…] After upgrading to Wordpress 2.0 and then returning to 1.5.2 (for sake utilizing of Live+Press) I noticed my site was taking an average of 15 seconds to load on a T1 connection. Not being that savvy I am not sure if downgrading the Wordpress database resulted in longer sql query times…I still don’t know. I do know, however, that once I returned to 2.0 the load time is a more reasonable (but still too long) 5 - 8 seconds. […]
