With two Engilsh Mastiffs, a mini BT, one cat with another on it’s way and a 14 foot snake we really do not have the time (or resources) to give our parents the grandchildren they’ve been pestering us about.

Scarecrow and I spend way too much time (and money) spoiling our animals. We made a run to PetsMart yesterday to pick up new food dishes for Dweez (with the new cat on it’s way he’s going to need larger dishes.) While there we found a Mastiff-sized ball with handle and jumbo treat ball (dog treats are placed inside the ball ~ it’s up to the dog to figure how to get them out) for Winnie. Despite Scarecrow’s protests that it was a wasted expense I put an extra-large steel dog dish in the cart (S has been using my steel mixing bowls for the dogs *blech*). One expense I wish we didn’t have to bother with would be the treatment for Willa’s coproghagia *shudders* ~ tablets and spray. All totaled we spent $117 by the time we made it through the door.

We made a new friend while shopping ~ a cute little girl who has just enlisted in the Marines. She runs the dog-training classes at the store. During our conversation she gave us tips on how to handle Willa’s little ‘disorder’, several other issues we are having with our little bat-dog and the possible causes for the behaviors. Scarecrow told me that she and her bf showed up at the club last night (I stayed in like the slacker I am ;-p)

As soon as we returned home from the store Scarecrow was in the back yard playing ball with Winnie. I will have to get pictures of her carrying the ball by it’s handle~ she looks so adorable and goofy (hey, these are our ‘children’, after all ;-p) It took her mere seconds to get the treats out of the ball ~ no trick there with her powerful jaws. Poor ol’ Why was happy to have a new kind of treat to gnaw on while lounging around the yard. Willa was content with her beef flavored ‘treatment’ as she seemed to think the tablets were a treat *fingers crossed* I hope these tablets work ~ I can’t think of any behavioral problem more nauseating than coprophagia. Dweez wasn’t too sure about the food dishes ~ he pawed at them for a bit, circling the dishes several times before he deemed them worthy to dine from.

At the moment we have a 14 foot Burmese python in our bath tub (well, inside a heated carrier wrapped in moving blankets, temporarily placed in our bathtub). My slacker husband procrastinated too long and did not have the cage ready for the snake when she arrived. I didn’t think it would be best for the animal to be placed in a cold cage after all of the stress it was through that night (a shot for her respiratory infection, a car ride on a cold damp night in a noisy Jeep). She’s a beautiful snake ~ though not very sociable at the moment (she hisses loudly whenever we enter the bathroom.) My cat is very curious to see what’s in the carrier but he’ll never be allowed in the same room with the snake ~ that goes for the rest of our animals, as well. For both the sake of our fur-bearing animals and the sake of the snake. The poor girl has been through enough stress recently without being pawed and snuffled by curious fur-bearing creatures.

I was hoping today would be as nice of a day as yesterday. I couldn’t believe how gorgeous it was once we got out of the house. When I walked through the door into the bright, cool day my crankiness dissipated instantly. Though I have to admit I find listening to the rain currently falling outside my window very relaxing.
